In addition, it is important that you keep your muscles strong and flexible, even if you have to wear a brace. Several methods of exercise have been accepted in the treatment of scoliosis by the International Society on Scoliosis Orthopedic and Rehabilitation Treatment (SOSORT).<\/p>\n<p>At the Dutch Scoliosis Center we apply the method of ISST and &#8216;Schroth Best practice&#8217; (SBP). These methods work on posture awareness, correction of scoliosis in three directions (3D), practicing daily activities in good posture and maintaining the improved posture. Through good research, there is gradually more evidence for the effectiveness of these methods. New research should show which methods and which exercises work best for different patients. Here you can read the English article in which the methods are described and compared.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/3&#8243;][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=&#8221;2\/3&#8243;][vc_single_image image=&#8221;3601&#8243; img_size=&#8221;large&#8221;][\/vc_column][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/3&#8243;][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=&#8221;2\/3&#8243;][vc_column_text]In the Netherlands, the methods of Schroth are most often used: the 3D-Schroth therapy and Schroth Best Practice. These practice methods can be used with children, adolescents and adults.<\/p>\n<p>Depending on the severity and form of the scoliosis, the remedial therapist will put together an exercise schedule. Usually we start with a session once or twice a week. After that, it is gradually reduced to once every two to three weeks. Some exercises you should do at home. Positioning exercises are most effective if you do them often. Then adopting the new posture will automatically become a good habit. Some exercises are also easy to do during daily activities such as brushing your teeth, washing dishes and watching TV[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/3&#8243;][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=&#8221;2\/3&#8243;]<div class=\"info-title  csgve-title-6a31dfede2a42-what-does-the-schroth-therapist-pay-attention-to-when-drawing-up-a-plan info-title-uline\">What does the Schroth therapist pay attention to when drawing up a plan?<\/div>[\/vc_column][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/3&#8243;][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=&#8221;2\/3&#8243;][vc_column_text]Schroth exercise therapy attempts to treat all three dimensions of the curvature (forward-backward, sideways and twisting). Depending on the type of scoliosis, the Schroth therapist will draw up a treatment plan that exactly fits your curve(s). The therapist looks at the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Is there a single bend (C-scoliosis) or are there double bends (S-scoliosis)?<\/li>\n<li>How far are the vertebrae turned (rotation)?<\/li>\n<li>In which part of the spine is the scoliosis bend(s) located?<\/li>\n<li>How flexible or stiff is\/are the bend(s)?<\/li>\n<li>&#8216;Static&#8217; (balance, hollow\/convex back)<\/li>\n<li>Muscle strength and muscle lengths<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/3&#8243;][vc_single_image image=&#8221;3608&#8243; img_size=&#8221;medium&#8221;][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=&#8221;2\/3&#8243;]<div class=\"info-title  csgve-title-6a31dfede2a66-what-do-you-train-at-schroth-therapy info-title-uline\">What do you train at Schroth therapy<\/div>[\/vc_column][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/3&#8243;][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=&#8221;2\/3&#8243;][vc_column_text el_id=&#8221;bulletpoints&#8221; el_class=&#8221;p&#8221;]<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Awareness of the scoliosis and the preferred position<\/li>\n<li>3D correction of the scoliosis: The exercises go against the bend and rotation. They are mainly performed asymmetrically and supported by special breathing techniques.<\/li>\n<li>Correction of the curves low (lumbar) or high (thoracic) in the back with a specific exercise program.<\/li>\n<li>Muscle strengthening exercises from a corrected posture<\/li>\n<li>Techniques to make tight turns smoother<\/li>\n<li>Training of daily functioning in a corrected posture<\/li>\n<li>Working on the best possible &#8216;static&#8217;.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=&#8221;3607&#8243; img_size=&#8221;large&#8221;][\/vc_column][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/3&#8243;][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=&#8221;2\/3&#8243;]<div class=\"info-title  csgve-title-6a31dfede2a81-where-do-schroths-practice-methods-come-from info-title-uline\">Where do Schroth's practice methods come from?<\/div>[\/vc_column][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/3&#8243;][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=&#8221;2\/3&#8243;][vc_column_text]Katharina Schroth, a scoliosis patient herself, developed a treatment method for scoliosis bends greater than 70 degrees around 1920. In the 1970s, her daughter, physiotherapist Christa Lehnert-Schroth, further developed the method. There was an extensive program with special exercises for large, small, single and double turns. This original Schroth method is used and further developed in various clinics in Germany and is internationally recognized by SOSORT (the International Organization for Research into the Treatment of Scoliosis).<\/p>\n<p>dr. Hans-Rudolf Weiss, physiotherapist\/orthopaedist and son of Christa Lehnert-Schroth simplified the exercise method so that it can be easily applied in daily practice (at home and at school).
