Schroth Therapy and Scoliosis Specific Exercise Therapy
Schroth Therapy and Scoliosis Specific Exercise Therapy The aim is to try to prevent worsening of the scoliosis (= progression). In addition, it is important that you keep your muscles strong and flexible, even if you have to wear a brace. Several methods of exercise have been accepted in the treatment of scoliosis by the International Society on Scoliosis Orthopedic and Rehabilitation Treatment (SOSORT).
At the Dutch Scoliosis Center we apply the method of ISST and ‘Schroth Best practice’ (SBP). These methods work on posture awareness, correction of scoliosis in three directions (3D), practicing daily activities in good posture and maintaining the improved posture. Through good research, there is gradually more evidence for the effectiveness of these methods. New research should show which methods and which exercises work best for different patients. Here you can read the English article in which the methods are described and compared.
