Castelein received the award for what he has meant to UMC Utrecht and in particular to his patients, the orthopedics department and countless young orthopedic and PhD students.

Even more important is his unwavering and long-standing commitment to improving care for this particular patient group. Under his leadership, a leading clinic has emerged, where many innovations and improvement initiatives have been developed. René operates in a large network of national and international healthcare professionals and scientists.
